Kayla McAvoy Awarded Spartanburg County Medical Society Scholarship

The Spartanburg County Medical Society honored University of South Carolina Upstate nursing student Kayla McAvoy of Boiling Springs at its annual Holiday Gala at the Piedmont Club.

McAvoy is a recipient of the Spartanburg County Medical Society Nursing Scholarship at USC Upstate. The scholarship is funded by the Spartanburg Medical Society membership and awards $2,750 a year.

The Spartanburg County Medical Society Nursing Scholarship is awarded to a full-time declared nursing student in the Mary Black School of Nursing at USC Upstate who is a Spartanburg County resident, has a minimum 3.0 GPA, has completed 90 credit hours and has financial need as defined by the (Department of Education) completion of the FASFA.

McAvoy plans to work in critical care or emergency care after graduation. She hopes to one day become a certified nurse anesthetist. She already has earned a bachelor's degree in experimental psychology with a minor in child advocacy. She is a member of the Psi Chi International Honor Society and currently has a 3.55 GPA. In addition to her studies, McAvoy played four years on USC Upstate's volleyball team. She also served as the president of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee for two years.
