Brandon Mimnaugh Performed in "To Kill A Mockingbird," Oct. 2-5

Brandon Mimnaugh of Boiling Springs performed in "To Kill A Mockingbird" by Christopher Sergel with the University of South Carolina Upstate Shoestring Players in the Humanities and Performing Arts Center. Performances will be held at 8 p.m. Oct. 2-4 and at 3 p.m. Oct. 5.

The play is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book written by Harper Lee in 1960, which has become a classic in American literature. The stage adaptation tells the story of a black man accused of raping a white woman in the fictional town of Maycomb, Ala., in the 1930s. Told through the eyes of Jean Louise Finch, better known as Scout, the story includes a mysterious neighbor named Boo Radley, various coming of age issues regarding Scout and her brother Jem, in addition to her father, Atticus, defending Tom Robinson, the accused rapist.

Following the Oct. 2 performance, Dr. Warren Carson, chief diversity officer and senior associate vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, will moderate a discussion on the issues of race and the antiquated references in literature.

The cast includes: Kelly Casteel of Spartanburg as Jean Louise Finch, Jordan Montemayor of Spartanburg as Scout, Sam Kopf of Spartanburg as Jem, Robert Wendover of Spartanburg as Atticus, Simone Dawkins of Moore as Calpurnia, Haley Arnold of Moore as Maudie Atkinson, Elizabeth Bellen of Liberty as Stephanie Crawford, Lauren McGaha of Anderson as Mrs. Dubose, Juan Williamson of Bogota, Columbia, as Nathan Radley, Howie Dewitt of Greenville as Boo Radley, Colin Miller of Inman as Dill, Chandler Crawford of Rock Hill as Heck Tate, Erik Makowski of Inman as Judge Taylor, Raheem Hughes of Kershaw as Reverend Sykes, Harley Bevill of Greenville as Mayella Ewell, Ryan Barry of Spartanburg as Bob Eweell, Brandon Mimnaugh of Boiling Springs as Walter Cunningham, Garrett Gibson of Inman as Mr. Gilmer, Dexter Simmons of Clinton as Tom Robinson, Destini Anderson of Moncks Corner as Helen Robinson. Ticket prices are $8 for general public and $4 for USC Upstate students, faculty, and staff.
